Who we serve
(OK, we know it
should be
whom)
The
V2V™ beehives at St. Helena's produced a
blessed harvest
"Honey Dan" brings in an incredible first harvest from the bees at St. Helena's. Click here for details of the first honey harvest.
- Briar Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center: We celebrate the Eucharist once a month and provide weekly art classes for residents, many of whom are indigent.
- The Spirituality Network of Chicago: An ecumenical group of experienced spiritual directors and retreat leaders who provide services for the south and southwest suburbs.
- Vacant2Vegetables™ garden for the poor: We have established a new partnership with Vacant2Vegetables™, a group that grows fresh produce for local food pantries. They have started a large garden -- presided over by a most wondrous scarecrow -- on our five-acre grounds and will produce their first harvest this fall. Also, three beehives will produce fine, pure honey of unbelievable quality. You can check out the website of one of the principal gardeners at http://greenthumbdujour.com/.
- Boy Scout Pack, Troop, and Crew 69: We act as sponsors and several of our parishioners are deeply involved with Scouting. And the Scouts have conducted a garage sale, renovated a bathroom for handicap accessibility, refurbished our parish hall, and constructed a labyrinth for us.
- Canned food for Local Food Banks: We collect food for the needy both at mass and at our 24/7 food drop (cans only) in front of the Church.
- Tender Loving Care Animal Shelter: The offering from our twice-yearly pet blessings goes to this shelter in Homer Glen. Pet blessings are on Good Shepherd Sunday (4th Sunday after Easter) in the spring and the Sunday closest to the Feast of St. Francis (Oct. 4) in the fall.To see a pet-blessing video, click here.
